The toughest choice for many contractors is where to place their General Liability coverage. The coverage is required in order to obtain a contractor’s license in Washington, and the protection against claims and lawsuits is necessary as everyone in business takes on risk whether they want to or not. General Liability provides coverage for alleged or actual Bodily Injury and Property Damage you do to a third party and lawsuit defense if you’re sued. It protects your assets from becoming vulnerable in the case of a claim.
What General Liability doesn’t cover are the following types of risk that many contractors need:
1.) Professional Liability
2.) Pollution Liability
3.) Commercial Auto Liability
4.) Errors and Omissions
5.) Medical Insurance
6.) Disability Insurance
In addition, many contracts require contractors to carry additional or higher liability limits. We can quote Commercial Umbrella at great rates and help you keep jobs coming in the door. Contact us to find out what your options are for General Liability insurance.
Whether you’re renting or you own that CAT Crawler sitting on site, you need insurance to cover your tools and equipment. Typical types of equipment insured include:
- Mobile equipment such as loaders, daggering equipment, bulldozes and excavators
- Employee tools
- Miscellaneous Tools and Equipment - small tools such as power hand tools
- Rented equipment
- Leased equipment you may be required to insure per the lease agreement
- Equipment borrowed from others in your care, custody and control
Coverage can be taken on a Scheduled basis or on a Blanket basis and will supply coverage anywhere in the world the equipment might be located. Alternatively, coverage can be written on a Reporting Form, which offers protection without a value limitation – you simply report your values at the end of the year and are charged once.
Coverage is most often on an Actual Cash Value basis, which means the company will not replace old with new, or on Agreed Value, but Replacement Cost options are available with some carriers. If your equipment is new, be sure to check for Replacement Cost availability! Your coverage is based on a number of factors, please contact us for a quote.
Having a good relationship with your bonding carrier can get you far, allowing you to do more than stay licensed with Labor and Industries. Besides the license bond, contractors often need the following:
- Street Cut Bonds
- Bid Bonds
- Performance Bonds
- Payment Bonds
We represent bond carriers with a long time in the industry. A few carriers also offer bond + insurance combination policies. There are many options to choose from as long as your personal and business credit is clear. Since Bond Insurance is also based on a number of factors, please contact our office for a quote.
